This Year's Open Science Week at MU Will Focus on Predatory Journals

Our Open Science team is preparing two separate events to participate in the international Open Science Week campaign. This year's theme is so-called predatory magazines. On Monday, October 23, there will be a lecture on the topic "How (not) to recognize a quality mathematical journal?", on Tuesday, October 24, Emanuel Kulczycki will shed light on the issue with a lecture entitled "Opening the Black Box of Predatory Publishing".

EOSC representatives from all European countries gathered in Madrid, Spain. During the EOSC Symposium 2023 in September, representatives from the Czech Republic actively engaged in discussions concerning the initiative's future steps, priorities, and strategic direction. The event was held under the auspices of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Terézia Slanináková: I Use Theoretical Knowledge to Solve Practical Problems

The newly acquired title of RNDr. and publication of an article in the scientific journal Information Systems. We talked about recent successes and other topics with Terézia Slanináková, Ph.D. student and researcher from Tom Rebok's team. Among other things, she revealed how it is for her as a woman to work in a field where there is still a majority of men, or what specifics she sees in the upcoming generation of young computer scientists.

Kids were chasing hackers at the science and technology fair

Last weekend, the Science and Technology Fair took place at the Brno Exhibition Center. More than four dozen science and technology educational organizations, academic institutes, universities and private companies presented themselves to schools and families with children. The Cybersecurity Team of Masaryk University (CSIRT-MU) was also present at the event. Our team prepared an escape game and an interactive quiz for the visitors, during which children and their parents could playfully review the principles of safe behaviour on social media.

New Era of Czech Science: The EOSC Initiative Is Entering a Hot Phase in the Czech Republic 

The international EOSC (European Open Science Cloud) initiative is expanding to the Czech Republic. It will connect existing scientific communities and create a system for storing and sharing data. Moreover, it will facilitate the research data access for scientists and scientific organizations. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic has just approved funding for the "IPs EOSC-CZ" project in Czechia. And it has officially launched its active phase on Monday, 4 September 2023.

A team of IT experts is working on comprehensive support of the registry and management of MU's extensive ICT infrastructure

As part of the Cesnet Development Fund project entitled "Asset Management - Online record keeping and complete asset management of the university's IT infrastructure", the ICS MUNI team focused on creating comprehensive support for the record keeping and management of network, hardware and software assets within the extensive ICT infrastructure of Masaryk University.
