Cloud Enthusiast

We are the Institute of Computer Science MUNI, a unique organization combining IT research, operation, and development. In cooperation with CESNET, our cloud team creates the environment that allows scientists from all around Europe to do their cutting-edge research and data analysis in the fields of life science, bioinformatics, mass spectrometry, earth observation, and cybersecurity. Researchers use our instruments to bring DNA sequencing and futuristic treatments for cancer from the realm of sci-fi into reality.

We follow the Infrastructure as Code methodology: the whole cloud infrastructure is deployed and operated via Ansible and Puppet. Our deployment is rather large and consists of 283 hypervisors that contain 9560 cores and 190 TB RAM.

Job Summary

We are looking for a smart person to join our cloud team in a junior position with the possibility of growth to the position of cloud operator or cloud applications developer.

This is a good opportunity to get involved in the building and operating of a cloud environment based on the open-source project OpenStack.

Responsibilities on the position

- Cloud user’s support: Work with tickets and requests (No phone calls, home-office possibility, office in CESNET and UVT MU premises at Sumavska 15, Brno)

- Keep cloud documentation up to date

- Help our users to use cloud applications

You should have:

  • Willingness to learn - we are constantly growing e.g. using new tools and processes. We want you to be flexible in terms of learning new things with us.
  • Proactive approach – for this position we want you to not only participate by solving the task but also by coming up with advancements and creative solutions.
  • Good verbal skills – your early work will be learning and understanding our product and infrastructure. You will help to build our knowledge base, explain cloud methodology to researchers. Therefore, it’s crucial you have reasonable ability to communicate in written English.
  • Base Linux knowledge as our cloud and all related software is running on Linux.
  • Base Git knowledge – following IaC methodology, we use Git as a VCS and it also supports our agile development workflow – pull requests, code reviews, pipelines.
  • Base networking knowledge.
  • Base development skills (Python) – we create our own tools to automatize routine work.

If you are not 100% confident in many of these, don’t worry. We are counting on leading you through the process of acquiring the necessary skills.

Junior Cloud DevOps Engineer

We are the Institute of Computer Science MUNI, a unique organization combining IT research, operation, and development. Researchers use our instruments to bring DNA sequencingand futuristic treatments for cancer from the realm of sci-fi into reality. Besides such serious results, our team also participate in virtual accelerated desktops that are applicable e.g. for cloud gaming.

We follow the Infrastructure as Code methodology: the whole infrastructure is deployed and operated via Terraform and Puppet. Our deployment is rather large and consists of more than 6000 cores and 100 TB RAM coupled with more than 10PB storage capacity.

Job Summary

We are looking for a smart person to join our cloud team as a  junior DevOps Engineer with the possibility of growth to the position of a cloud operator or a cloud applications developer.

This is a good opportunity to get involved in the building and operating of a cloud environment based on the open-source project Kubernetes.

Responsibilities on the position

  • Container development and integration, supporting users with their application.
  • Document developed use cases.
  • Follow trends and implement new container features.

You should have:

  • Willingness to learn – we are constantly growing e.g., using new tools and processes. We want you to be flexible in terms of learning new things with us.
  • Proactive approach – for this position we want you to not only participate by solving the task but also by coming up with advancements and creative solutions.
  • Good verbal skills – your early work will be learning and understanding our product and infrastructure. You will help to build our knowledge base, explain cloud methodology to researchers. Therefore, it’s crucial you have reasonable ability to communicate in written English.

You should have some prior exposure to:

  • Containers technology (K8S).
  • Rancher – understand motivation of container management tools.
  • Linux administration – on user/advanced user level.
  • Git – following IaC methodology, we use Git as a VCS and it also supports our agile development workflow – pull requests, code reviews, pipelines.
  • Networking – DNS, IPv4, motivation of overlay network
  • Development and coding (e.g., Python, C, Go lang).

If you don’t feel like a pro in any of these, don’t worry. With us, you will become a pro.
