Popis The development of a novel linear atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) generating a filament-free several cm long nitrogen “plasma curtain” is presented. The highly nonequilibrium N2 plasma of approximately 70 W/cm3 power density was generated in a 0.6 mm gap between two planar Diffuse Coplanar Surface Barriers Discharge (DCSBD) electrode systems and ejected as a cold (<55 °C) afterglow plasma plume (AfPP) both into N2 and ambient air environments. Basic physical and performance parameters of the device are compared with those of commercial linear N2 APPJs utilizing different visually diffuse dielectric barrier discharges and discussed on the base of different plasma generating mechanisms. The device's practical performance properties are demonstrated by successful hydrophilization of 0.40-mm thick (40 g/m2) polypropylene nonwoven fabric containing thermally sensitive µm-diameter range fibres.
