| Popis | Vegetation research of tropical rainforests is mostly concerned with trees. There is however a considerable portion of plant biodiversity associated with epiphytes, lianas and understory herbs. We made an inventory of the herb layer within two 1-ha forest dynamics plots located in one of the world’s most species-rich plant communites, a lowland dipterocarp forest of Brunei Darussalam, North Borneo. The herbs were assigned to 5 functional and taxonomic groups including ferns, mycoheterotrophs, aroids, zingibers and orchids. We explored the relationships between each group’s diversity and a set of soil chemistry, light and topography variables. |
