Description As in other animals, the topic of fish health is a dynamic process that keeps on evolving: new diseases are being discovered, diagnostic methods as well as therapeutic and preventive measures are being developed, and data on disease causative agents are being specified. This book is intended mainly as a teaching material especially for university students and undergraduates of veterinary and fishery subjects. It may be used as a source of information for students of secondary technical schools specialized in fishery, and for relevant specialists in fish breeding. Written by sixteen authors from six institutions, the book provides a comprehensive review and complex characteristics of diseases and pathological states in fish occurring on our fish farms, in open waters and in pet fresh water fish keeping including the diagnostic procedures, prevention and therapeutic possibilities. The issue of diseases and pathological states in fish is divided into six chapters: Viral Diseases, Bacterial Diseases, Diseases Caused by Eukaryotic Organisms, Zoonoses, Mandatory Reporting of Fish Infections, and Pathological States of Non-infectious Origin. The dosage of preventive, antiseptic and therapeutic medications is presented in a separate chapter at the end of the book. The book reports on fish diseases and pathologies occurring mainly in the Central European climate. Furthermore, it mentions several diseases that have not been diagnosed in our conditions so far or that do not pose a serious threat to the health condition of fish, but which nevertheless need to be considered in terms of being introduced and pathogenically established in our conditions due to the developing trade and increasing fish exports and imports. The issue of health itself is preceded by the chapter Introduction and Principles of Fish Sampling. This chapter briefly describes the general sampling principles which need to be followed in order to correctly determine the cause of health problems in fish. The text is supplemented with extensive photographic documentation.
