| Description | We calculate NLTE models of the stellar wind of Vela X-1 primary. The predicted wind mass-loss rate and terminal velocity show good agreement with observations. The wind in the vicinity of the neutron star is strongly affected by X-ray photoionization. In accordance with observations, the wind velocity close to the neutron star is lower due to the presence of X-rays. |
