Description The role of language in shaping socio-political realities suggests that narratives disseminated by governments strongly influence public opinion. This article addresses if and how the Hungarian government's narratives on the war in Ukraine are reproduced by six church-based charitable organisations involved in the Bridge for Transcarpathia initiative; hence, analysing 646 Facebook posts using thematic and content analysis. Despite state funding and certain oversight, these organisations upheld their "Christian values" and resisted politicisation and securitisation of the refugee crisis in Hungary. Their narratives remained focused on humanitarian efforts rather than reflecting the government's ambiguous stance on Russian aggression against Ukraine.
