Description The Czech president can be a powerful figure. He can act as a guarantor of stability or as a political player who tests constitutional limits, challenges existing customs, and tries to change the rules of the game. Each of Czech presidents – Václav Havel, Václav Klaus, Miloš Zeman, and Petr Pavel – has brought their own style and vision to the office. This book examines how significantly this style and vision influenced foreign policy, especially in times of crisis such as wars. The wars in Kosovo, Iraq, Georgia, and Ukraine are excellent examples of presidential attitudes, ambitions, strategic calculations, and actions. The behavior of Czech presidents in the arena of foreign policy has often been accompanied by disputes with government politicians, especially prime ministers and foreign ministers. The book also provides a fascinating insight into this conflictual dimension of Czech politics.
