Description | An optimized LC-MS method was developed for the simultaneous quantification of seven antiseizure medication (ASM) in alternative biological matrices—saliva and dried blood spots (DBS). Reasoning is based on growing interest in the assessment of ASM in non-traditional matrices and their potential application in therapeutic drug monitoring and personalized treatment. All ASM were successfully quantified in positive ionization mode—including valproic acid, which is commonly determined in negative mode. Additionally, samples from the selected group of patients were analysed and the resulting concentrations were compared with plasma levels determined by the hospital’s established clinical method. The results are promising for future clinical validation and prospective studies with vulnerable patient populations or home sampling scenarios. |
