| Description | The poster examines the prosodic types of liquids in Czech and their phonetic properties. Its aim is to experimentally verify whether the phonetic properties of Czech liquids differ across various prosodic positions. The study focuses on the alveolar lateral [l] and trill [r]. The experiment involves compiling a dataset containing these target sounds in the nucleus, onset and extrasyllabic position. The dataset is presented for recorded reading by 15 native speakers of Czech and the recordings are analysed using Praat software. Statistical analysis using a linear mixed-effects model reveals differences in the behaviour of the lateral and the trill. While the lateral exhibits longer duration when functioning as a sonority peak, within the trill, the duration of the trill part remain unaffected by syllabic position. The poster was created as part of an exhibition accompanying the announcement of the Dean's Award during Humanities Week. |
