Institute of Computer Science Against COVID-19
Did you know that in addition to university operation and online teaching support, we are also indirectly involved in the development of the anti-COVID-19 drug during the coronavirus period, or that we are helping to speed up the mapping of herd immunity?
We Have Mediated Assistance in Mapping the Herd Immunity to Coronavirus
We have responded to the need for computer technology at the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine at Faculty of Medicine in Palacký University Olomouc, which is responsible for national coordination and data processing from testing for the presence of coronavirus causing the disease COVID-19.
How? We have ensured the fast delivery of powerful computer technology from M Computers company, and have we provided the necessary know-how. We are also coworking on providing the computing and storage infrastructure for data processing from ongoing herd immunity measurements.
The borrowed technical equipment is used to collect, store, and make available data in real-time from all testing hospitals and laboratories. It also ensures the connection with the testing collection points so that the whole process is happening without unnecessary delays. Experts from the Centre CERIT-SC also helped with the configuration of the provided hardware, and they are involved in the ongoing optimization of the entire system.
We Are Looking for a Way to Fight against COVID-19
The research team led by our colleague Jiří Filipovič indirectly participates in the development of the anti-COVID-19 drug. Specifically, it is involved in the development of Xmipp software, a tool for image reconstruction from cryo-electron microscopy.
It is used by Spanish colleagues from CNB CSIC to reconstruct the structure of the glycoprotein forming the spike of the SARS-Cov-2 virus causing the COVID-19 disease. The reconstructed glycoprotein binds to the ACE2-receptor and allows the virus to infect human cells. Knowledge of its structure is essential for the development of drugs that would block this ability of the virus.
We have launched a project for the use of 3D printing in education
3D printing offers a huge pedagogical potential, which is not currently used mainly due to the absence of available quality methodological materials. That is why, together with the Faculty of Education and Y Soft Corporation, we initiated the project in this field.
