In the U.K.,
there's us (Sheffield University, Department of Information Studies) of
course, and also:
- City University's
Department of Information Science, has a Web point under development,
with a good deal more there now than when I first looked.
- Loughborough
University of Technology's Department of Information and Library
Studies has a developing Web site and also hosts the Computers and
Teaching Initiative site for the field (CTILIS) where you will also find
an interesting Training Electronic Journal. (There's also a list of CTI
centres in other fields on BUBL
the Bulletin Board for Libraries.)
- Manchester Metropolitan University's Department of Library and Information Studies has just (October 95) gone live with its pages.
- Queen
Margaret College, Edinburgh has pages on its communications
and information management degrees and some staff pages, including an interesting set of pages from George McMurdo.

University, Aberdeen School of Information and Media has pages

Electronic Journal project at Loughborough.
- University

Studies has a set of Gopher menus, giving mainly institutional
information.
A student page has also been established recently by LISSPS - Library and Information Studies Students and Prospective

watching.

In other parts of Europe, Web sites are also
appearing - you can click on a country below:
Czech Republic
Denmark

Iceland
- University of Iceland Library and Information Science Programme in the Faculty of Social Sciences has new pages, with, nice to see, a link back to this page - thanks, Anne!
Ireland

Lithuania
- Vilnius University, Faculty of Communication which has
departments of Librarianship, Information Systems, Bibliography and Book Science, and Theory of Communication and Information, as well as an Institute of Journalism, has a couple of pages at present listing the departments and their staff and e-mail addre

Norway
Poland
Spain
Sweden
- The Swedish School of Librarianship at University College, Borås
and the Research Centre for Library and Information Studies at
Gothenberg University share a
well-designed set of pages with many useful links to other sites.
However, some of the links lead to general institutional servers rather
than to the LIS departments, so don't be surprised if you fail to find
what you want!
- Lund University has pages
under development (all in Swedish at the moment, although English pages are promised) with student
project work from a couple of sessions.
- Umeå
University where the INFORSK research centre is involved in
librarianship and information science courses. Pages for the courses
are under development.

Switzerland

In the U.S.A., there are many sites:
most of them have a rather "official" feel to them and a number are simply the pages for
a university-wide information system, with very little evidence of Departmental enthusiasm for the idea. Others are more interesting.
- University of Alabama:
well developed pages with a lot of information on the place and the
programmes.
- University of Arizona SLS
- University of California,
Berkeley
- University
of California, Los Angeles, which now has more things in it than
when I first looked, and even points to this page - just think, you
could go round in circles forever!
- Catholic University of America, Washington, DC The School of Library and Information Science now has pages up and 'under development' (March 1996).
- Drexel University's College of Information Science and Technology now has its site up and running.
- Emporia State University, Kansas School of Library and Information Management - a comprehensive set of pages on the School with lots of links to useful sources.
- Florida State University's School of Library and Information Studies is now (April 1996) up on the Web, with a well-designed set of pages. Mostly official stuff at present, but no doubt developing.
- University of
Hawaii, which includes an introductory on-line Internet course.
- University of Illinois
- Indiana University has Web sites at Bloomington, South Bend , and Indianapolis. The latter
is under development and, at this update, there's not much there. The Bloomington and South Bend pages provide nice contrasts in style.
- University
of Iowa. Originally had a very formal set of pages, very official CWIS-like, but has livened up somewhat since the start.
- Kent State University has very basic pages; one paragraph for the School as a whole and contact information for the academic staff (faculty) pages
- Louisiana State University now has a well-developed set of pages although still rather "official" in style.
- University of Maryland College of Library and Information Services is getting geared up for an 'official launch' in September 1995.
- University of Michigan
includes some interesting pages on students' projects and a
separate set of pages for the Communicator , the official publication of the Information
and Library Studies Student Association
- University
of Missouri
- State University of New York at Albany The School of Information Science and Policy has a new set of pages under development - March 1996.
- North Carolina Central University at Durham North Carolina has pages for its School of Library and Information Sciences.
- University of North
Carolina - Chapel Hill, is one of the best developed and has some
interesting student projects from a recent course. Check out the pages
for the North Carolina
Museum of Life and Science for example.
- University of North Carolina - Greensboro New pages here, some still under development. Very much an 'official' set of pages at this stage.
- University of North Texas
- University of Pittsburgh, School of Library and Information Science, has pages for its two Departments (of Information Science and of Library Science)
- Rutgers
University School of Communication, Library and Information Studies has its own Web pages, designed by students on its Internet Interfaces course.
- Pratt Institute, New York, the School of Information and Library Sciences has basic pages giving details of programmes, etc.
- St. John's University, New York has a new set of pages under development - but please, folks, do something about that intrusive background!
- San Jose State University, School of Library and Information Science - a fairly complete set of pages, but with some icons that are difficult to read with Netscape (black on dark blue or dark red is never a good
idea!)
- Simmons College, Boston has pages for the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, newly posted in December 1995 - predominantly organizational information at this stage, but no doubt dev
eloping.
- University of South Carolina:
under development and, I'm advised, a little buggy in the links still.
- University
of South Florida
- Southern
Connecticut State University
- Syracuse University has a nice new set of pages, with lots of information and links.
- University of Tennessee at Knoxville also has some new pages, which look to develop quickly into a useful source.
- University of
Texas at Austin.Where there are lots of students' home pages,
including one
with a link to an introductory Spanish tutorial. You'll also find the Center for Information Systems Management at Austin - where there
is some overlap with the information management field.
- Texas Women's University School of Library and Information Studies, just up (Jan. 96) and with an interesting link to a Gopher catalogue of publications.
- University
of Washington Recently moved to a new URL, this site has been developed considerably since I last looked..
- Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, has just set up its pages, early days yet, but getting things going.
- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Library and Information Science: where I found a link to the Journal of Library and Information Science, which turned out to be a Chinese language publica
tion, the editor of which is Wilfred Fong, the Assistant Dean. Perhaps the link ought to be NOT the Journal of Librarianship and Information Science, which, of course, is produced by the Library Association.
- ALISE, the Association for Library and Information Science Education, now has a home page, with lots of information on the organization and some pointers to other places.

Israel
- The Hebrew University of Jerusalem School of Library, Archive and Information Studies now has pages up and running - rather "official" at present, but no doubt ready to develop.

on of information technology into educational programmes worldwide.
- Mie University has a Course for Information Science Education in its Faculty of Education.
- University
of Tokyo (Tokyo, Japan), Department of Information Science. This
one would be a computer science department in the UK or the USA, but I thought
I'd leave it in because the boundaries are getting fuzzier.
- University
of Library and Information Science (Tsukuba Science City, Ibaraki,
Japan)
New Zealand
- Victoria University of Wellington Department of Library and Information Studies, has pages detailing courses, a staff list, and a couple of home pages for staff members. But not even a mention of my favouri
